My Dearest General: It Has Always Been You

Chapter 168 - Why Hadn't She Left Yet?

Jiang Jinyan\'s pupils dilated in shock but in the next second, he regained his senses. His tone was exceedingly cold. "What do you want?"

He breathed slowly, feeling his temple throb and his heart skipped a beat before drumming faster than before, even though his appearance betrayed nothing of his thoughts.

Shi Nian looked up at him with a smile, so bright as if the previous event between them never happened to begin with. [Have you eaten yet?]

A familiar question. A familiar tone.

Jiang Jinyan\'s fingers on the doorframe tightened until his knuckles turned white. The slight movement caught Shi Nian\'s attention and her eyes widened in shock. She held his hand gently, her face anxious.

His eyes trailed to see his injured knuckles with half dried blood stuck onto it. Because of his pale skin, the dark blood stain seemed especially conspicuous. It was indeed quite a scary sight. He cursed inwardly as he had forgotten to clean the wounds there.

Even without her typing, Jiang Jinyan could guess what she wanted to ask by her eyes alone.

What happened? Why are you injured? Are you okay?

He felt his vision blurred and he shook her hands off to stabilize himself. "None of your business."

He didn\'t want anything to do with her anymore. Wasn\'t last time enough? They had shed off all cordiality, so why was she still here?

Why hadn\'t she left yet?

Jiang Jinyan turned his eyes away and closed the door. But before he could do that, Shi Nian put her feet between the gaps of the door, blocking it by reflex. The strong force made her grimace in pain.

Seeing that, Jiang Jinyan\'s fingertips trembled and his hold on the door loosened. Shi Nian seized the opportunity to pull the door open and let herself in. Without waiting for him to react, she grabbed his hand with a force so soft that he could shake her off with the slightest effort…but he didn\'t. He couldn\'t do it.

His mind was sluggish as if he couldn\'t understand why she could enter his personal space. Jiang Jinyan still couldn\'t react as Shi Nian turned his palm to show the surface of the skin that was covered in criss cross scars, some were still new, some were old scars as they overlapped with each other.

Her eyes caught a small patch of maroon blood stain disappearing beneath his sleeves and she held no hesitation to roll it up, showing the sight of the long scar along his arm that had begun to fester!

Shi Nian\'s shoulders trembled as she looked up at him with a pained and confused look.

Jiang Jinyan couldn\'t endure that kind of gaze as he yanked his arm forcefully out of her grasp. "Have you had enough yet?" His voice was rough and hoarse. After saying that, he coughed so hard that his face flushed in an unnatural tinge of pink.

Shi Nian\'s heart skipped a beat and she placed the back of her palm against his forehead. The high temperature was enough to fry someone\'s brain!

Jiang Jinyan struggled to open his eyes. He could see the girl mouthing something, but his head was ringing in pain and the wound on his arm throbbed painfully. All of it got in the way of judgement and the only thing he wanted was to sleep.

"Go away…" He wanted to push the girl away but his body was seeped out of strength. His breaths were hot yet his teeth chattered due to the chill.

Instead of pushing her away, his hand was grabbed by a soft, cold thing. Jiang Jinyan\'s body wobbled and he blanked out for a second. When he regained his senses, he found Shi Nian painstakingly half supported and half dragged his body toward the couch.

Jiang Jinyan let out a muffled groan as his body fell to the soft surface. He closed his eyes and curled up, trying to block the light as much as possible. However, there was a repeating shake on his shoulder, it was so annoying that he slapped it off.

Shi Nian was so anxious that she almost cried. The wound on Jiang Jinyan\'s arm was very horrible, it wasn\'t properly treated and there was even pus in it! Now, the man had contracted high fever and he had gotten delirious. If it was left alone, he would die sooner or later!

For the first time ever, she was thankful for her recklessness. If she didn\'t come here, if she didn\'t barge her way in, what would become of Jiang Jinyan?

Shi Nian looked around and dashed to the room which she guessed was the bathroom. She was right though. The interior of their rooms was similar, it was only the size that was smaller on his part. Shi Nian rummaged through the cabinet but didn\'t find any medicine box.

She almost turned the bathroom upside down but she couldn\'t even find a hint of Yunnan Baiyao[1].

Left with no choice, Shi Nian ran out again. This time, Jiang Jinyan had already sat up, his eyes following her in daze as if he couldn\'t comprehend what was going on. Shi Nian rushed to him and checked his forehead, only to feel his temperature rising even higher!

Shi Nian typed anxiously. [Are you okay?]

He looked at the screen, his eyes blank.

[Let\'s go to the hospital okay?]

Shi Nian was ready to call for a cab when Jiang Jinyan grabbed her hand, his skin burning as if it was flame running inside his veins and not blood. "No." He frowned. "Don\'t…go to the hospital…" He spoke slowly, his tone so weak that after finishing the sentence, he leaned his head back and gasped heavily.

Shi Nian hovered around him, so distressed that she wished she could have her ability in her past life. With it, she could have already treated his wound and alleviated his pain easily. She tried to persuade him, but Jiang Jinyan was adamant not to go.

Perhaps he knew that nothing good would come out of it if he kept on being stubborn, he pointed toward a closed door. "The medicine box…" Without waiting for him to finish speaking, Shi Nian had already fled toward the door. Her feet almost tumbled due to the curling kitten on the way. It was sleeping so quietly that Shi Nian almost forgot its existence. She only gave it a glance and pushed open the door.

In the next second, the sight beyond the door was enough to drain all the colors from her face.
